About Us

In Loving Memory of Gilbert Eugene Crawford, Sr. : 1931-2014

Blue Flowers Org is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in memory of Gilbert Eugene Crawford, Sr. in 2014, after losing his 12 year battle against prostate cancer. Gilbert was a man of faith who believed in being proactive in his health and fought to overcome his health challenges together with the support of his family.

We seek to honor and preserve Gilbert's legacy and values by empowering women and the men in their lives against prostate cancer.  We exist to prevent another family from losing a father, husband, brother, son, grandfather, uncle, nephew or cousin to prostate cancer.

HIS(TORY)

Valerie Crawford-Schiele and her daughter, Shavonn Richardson, were there when Gilbert received his stage 4 prostate cancer diagnosis and supported him by serving as his caregivers for 12 years.  Although Valerie and Shavonn spearheaded Gilbert's care as primary caregivers, all the women in our family played a huge role.

We know we are not alone.  Your journey of supporting your loved one in the fight against cancer as a partner, sister, daughter, grand-daughter, niece, cousin or friend as caregivers is invaluable and positively impacts the health of your loved one.

We invite caregivers supporting their loved ones against cancer to join us in the fight,

Valerie Crawford-Schiele - Daughter

Shavonn Richardson - Granddaughter

...and the millions of families managing cancer every day.

Why the name "Blue Flowers" Org?

Great question!  The color blue symbolizes loyalty, as in a bride wearing "something blue",  trust and honesty.  The color blue brings order and has a calming effect during tough times. Blue Flowers Org's symbol is the "forget-me-not" bouquet of flowers.  It's a reminder to never forget our loved ones we've lost.
